She says, “How do I politely turn down a client? I had a Zoom meeting with a potential client, and we left off with me saying I’d sent her a proposal. But since then, I’ve decided I don’t want to work with her anymore. Apparently, she and her husband run two businesses. The client says she knows how to do everything but doesn’t have the time, which is why they’re hiring me. It sounds like there’ll be a pain to work with. And I’d rather not deal with the hassle. So how do I politely say I’m not interested?

Um, after thinking about it I don’t think this is going to be within ah the right scope. It’s not.. It’s not a good fit for for me and that’s kind of the gist of what I would say I mean I don’t know if I would go too much into detail. Um.

Yeah, yeah, so this question actually came up in our mastermind group I love some of the responses here. 1 of them said just just like you simple is best just send a friendly email saying that after some thoughtful consideration. You’re just not right for the project meaning. Freelancer feels they are not right for the project. Not the client um make it about you and just say like this doesn’t just doesn’t fit with what I’m doing right now or anything like that I think for me too I I use. Um my team all the time like this ambiguous idea of a team right.

And and just be cordial I mean it’s just business right? like I think the important thing to keep in mind most of all is that this client doesn’t want a freelancer who’s not committed Anyway, not excited to work with them right? So like you’re doing your but you’re doing both you a favor.

They said make the proposal high enough that it would be worth it to you No matter what? but that also increases the likelihood that she’ll decline the proposal So it’s kind of a win-win you make it so extravagantly high in price that it’s like I would put up with a terrible client for that amount of money.

So You either get a great amount of money or more likely she’ll just especially. It sounds like this kind of client. She’ll just say that’s too much. Can we do it for less and then you have a super easy Out. You just say no sorry we can’t do it for any less than that. So you you know you could you could still send the proposal keeping your word with that And yeah, yeah I I mean I Really like that advice too. I Think there’s there’s a lot of ways to to tackle this one depending on your personal style.

We can’t do it for that price and you drop the project or they say yes and then you have to still put up with them If you’re not okay with that that I think that particular tactic is not the way to go. You have to genuinely be okay with either outcome otherwise you do need you need to do something. We talked about earlier like just just politely decline. Just let them.
