Millions of people around the world are using work at home jobs to completely transform the way they and their families live and work.
Working from the comfort of your own home can be an incredible thing which is why work at home jobs are on the rise.
And with millions of online jobs you can do from home available through the power of the internet, work at home jobs has never been easier to find.
Unfortunately, though, FlexJobs’ most recent “State of Remote Work” study reveals for every legitimate work at home job you see online, there are around 60-70 fraudulent work at home jobs.
That’s a scary statistic.
And one that has encouraged me to write this article with the hopes that we’ll help you find work from home jobs that are 100% legitimate and also fun!
The truth is, if you’re not having fun while working then something’s wrong. And most jobs you can do from home bring way more satisfaction than working from home—primarily because work at home jobs allow you the flexibility and freedom to spend more time with family and less time commuting from home to work.
I’ve personally been working at home for quite a while now and can’t recommend it enough.

So without any further ado, here’s my mega-list of the best work at home jobs you can do on the comfort of your own couch.
I’ve broken them up into the following work-from-home categories:
Along with each work from home job below, I’ve also included the estimated previous experience required, the amount of special skills you might need, how much time you’ll need to dedicate to working at home for the job to pay off, and a few other rankings.
I’ve also included the pros (why trying this work at home job is a good idea), cons (why this at home job may not be perfect) and where you can find similar authentic work at home jobs.
Writing & editing jobs you can do from home
One of the fastest (and most popular) ways to start working from home is to find a work from home job as a writer.
Why? Because most writing jobs you can do from home with just a computer and an internet connection.
Not to mention, written text is still (by far) the #1 way we communicate online. Every day millions of websites need written content and millions of writers are contributing while they work at home.
While writing and editing jobs you can do from home could potentially fill up its own article and still end up quite lengthy, below, I’ve included just a few of my favorite work at home jobs to help you make money writing:
1. Online Journalist
Description:
Working from home as an online journalist can be incredibly exciting, fun and rewarding. Newspapers, blogs and magazines all over the world are always looking for new writers who are willing to pick up jobs you can do from home including doing research for big stories, writing stories, contributing written portions to larger pieces, interviewing people from home, and lots more.
Pros:
Having worked as an online journalist myself, I can say this is fast-paced online job is a real blast and definitely worth a try if you’re a talented writer and enjoy a fast-paced, ever-changing workday.
Cons:
Depending on the company hiring you to work at home, you may have to be on-call for when important stories come through. And with a 24/7 online news cycle, it may not fit your lifestyle.
Where to find these kinds of work at home jobs:
As I mentioned, there are millions of sites hiring work at home journalists and writers every week. For starters, try searching on FlexJobs in the News & Journalism section.
2. Ghost Writer/Blogger
Description:
If you want to find freelance writing jobs for beginners and don’t mind giving credit to someone else, then ghostwriting or ghost blogging is a great at home job for you. Ghostwriting essentially means you’re writing on someone else’s behalf. Lots of online personalities have work from home jobs that need to be done by professional writers. From simple social media writing jobs to ghostwriting entire books, there are millions of ghostwriting jobs available.
Pros:
Because you’re working at home as a ghostwriter, many of these jobs pay very well. Primarily because you’re doing two jobs: writing great content and matching the author’s voice and style.
Cons:
If you want to write to get your name out there, this is not the work-from-home writing job for you. As a ghostwriter, you’ll be virtually unknown to the world and someone else will get credit for the things you write.
Where to find these kinds of work at home jobs:
There are countless companies hiring at-home workers as ghostwriters. Along with Flexjobs (which I mentioned in the previous section), I’d also really love the ProBlogger Job Board for great ghost-blogging opportunities.
3. Blog/Magazine/Book Editor
Description:
If getting a work from home job as a writer isn’t quite your style, maybe editing is a better fit. Particularly if you find yourself sitting at home or on the go always correcting a missing apostrophe or correcting “your” to “you’re” then editing is a great job you can do from home. But being a work-at-home editor is often about more than catching typos or grammar errors. Some at-home blog or magazine editors also help vet new writers, brainstorm content ideas, or
Pros:
Working from home as an editor definitely has its perks. First, there’s the stereotypical-yet-mostly-correct vision you see of editors sitting at their breakfast bar with a cup of coffee, glasses on and calmly using a red pencil to mark up a ream of paper with a rough draft printed on it. That alone seems like a heavenly way to work from home. In addition, you get to work with lots of interesting people and have a variety of unique projects come to you all the time.
Cons:
Editors often face very strict deadlines and also have to manage the sometimes fragile egos of writers while often balancing the demands of publishers or higher-ups. If your goal is to find online jobs that are 100% relaxing, it’s something to consider.
Where to find these kinds of work at home jobs:
What’s nice is that for every legitimate writing job (book writers, article writers, journalists, serious bloggers) there is most likely an editor behind it. This means there are likely more work at home jobs for editors than you might think. For starters, I’d recommend this interview with work from home freelance editor Michael LaRocca.
4. Copywriter
Description:
If I had a dollar for every time someone thought my copywriting skills had something to do with “copyright”—regulations regarding intellectual property…well, let’s just say I would never need to work from home again. I’d be rich.
In reality, being a copywriter means you create more persuasive (often shorter) writing than a blogger, journalist, or author might typically produce. Copywriters are often hired by branding agencies, marketing departments, and advertising companies.
Pros:
One of the biggest benefits to work at home jobs for copywriters is that there is always a need for sales copy and marketing copy. Whether a company is thriving or struggling, a copywriter is almost always found on the payroll somewhere.
Cons:
As a practicing copywriter, it’s hard to find any real cons to at home jobs in copywriting. I guess deadlines can be a bit of a headache depending on who your clients are. Some ad agencies particularly want you to work the same crazy hours their full-time employees do.
Where to find these kinds of work at home jobs:
Finding copywriting jobs you can do from home is pretty easy. Finding quality copywriting jobs you can do from home, on the other hand, can be a bit more complicated. I recommend reaching out to local advertising or marketing agencies to see if they have any work they need to be outsourced to freelancers. 5. Branding Writer/Business Name Creator
Description:
While there are hundreds of different kinds of work from home jobs or writers, becoming a branding writer or business name creator takes a special kind of creativity. If you’re the kind of person who likes to solve extremely challenging puzzles, think ways (I’m talking WAYS) outside the box, or blaze through 1,000 bad ideas to land on the perfect one, then writing for branding or business naming is totally up your alley. And because so many people are starting companies of all sizes—or adding new products to their company’s lineup—business namers and branders are in high demand right now.
Pros:
If you like a challenge, working at home as a branding writer or business namer is 100% your jam. The upside? The complete satisfaction when you finally land on that perfect business name.
Cons:
This kind of writing is definitely no walk in the park. It’s the kind of work only the most resilient of work from home writers (who don’t get too attached to their work).
Where to find these kinds of work at home jobs:
Finding online jobs naming businesses can be tough, but I’ve discovered this cool little company that hires people just like you to name businesses, write taglines, and lots more. They’re called Squadhelp. Just visit their website, scroll down and click the “become a creative” link in the footer.
6. Social Media Writer
Description:
One of the most popular jobs you can do from home in the writing category is that of a Social Media writer. Almost every company these days has a social media presence and has also realized that Social media is (1) always hungry and (2) different from traditional advertising or journalism.
If you have a knack for speaking persuasively to a particular audience in engaging ways, then creating written content for social media is definitely one of the many jobs you can do from home.
Pros:
Social media can be a fun and exciting way to work from home. You get to create and publish interesting and engaging content every day and, for most work at home social media writers, you also get to engage with interesting people on behalf of the companies who hired you to work at home.
Cons:
Depending on what kind of company hires you to work at home as a social media writer, you may have weird hours or have to be on-call at times. This is particularly true of news-related companies that have to deliver content via social media at all times of the day. Usually, though, online jobs like this one can be managed with fancy schedulers and other technology.
Where to find these kinds of work at home jobs:
First, take a look at the Marketing section at FlexJobs. If not, you can try Virtual Vocations or the weekly gig list at SolidGigs which frequently has loads of quality work at job social media writer positions.
7. Survey Taker & Review Writer
Description:
You may not know this, but many companies (particularly companies with physical products) are willing to pay decent writers to work from home using and reviewing their products online. Studies show products with favorable reviews from real human beings perform better which makes many companies very motivated to hire. If you like sharing your opinion and would like to do it online more often, then a product or service review writer is a job you can do from home easily.
Pros:
Good reviews can be the difference between success and failure for some products which is why companies are so willing to send you free products and let you review them as your work at home job.
Cons:
You have to be careful if you want work at home jobs in review writing or survey taking. If you choose the right sites and products (like the ones below) then you won’t have a problem. If you’re not careful, you could end up falling prey to scams or shady promotions.

8. Blogger
Description:
And last, but certainly not least on my list of online jobs, you can do from home as a writer is being a blogger. Now, admittedly if you want to work at home as a blogger, there’s way more to it than just writing. But, as a blogger working from home, you’ll spend a lot of time writing. If you enjoy sharing your thoughts with the world and enjoy the idea of working for yourself as well, starting your own blog is definitely a great option.
Pros:
Working from home as a blogger means you get to be your own boss, decide what you write about, and when.
Cons:
There’s a lot more to making money from blogging than just writing great content. While you might be able to write a great article and get paid by another company, writing good content is only step one when you work for yourself. Then there’s the promotion, the strategy, and the monetization—all huge steps you have to overcome before this at home job can support your full-time.
Where to find these kinds of work at home jobs:

Creative (design, art, etc.) Work at Home Jobs
Not far behind writing jobs in popularity falls this category which features artistic/design jobs you can do from home. People searching for work at home jobs tend to lean towards graphic design, layout design, logo design and similar work at home jobs because they can be done exclusively online.
Opportunities for online jobs in creativity and art abound because whether you work at home or not usually has little bearing on the quality of work you produce. Gone are the days of having to be inside an office or print studio in order to make beautiful art for your clients.
Millions of artists all over the world have found jobs you can do from home and are making good money doing it. Here are a few of my favorite:
9. Remote Graphic Designer
Description:
Companies all over the world are hiring work from home designers for a few simple reasons. First, having a contractor work from home instead of coming into the office saves time and money for small companies.
Secondly, with access to the internet and unparalleled design tools, agencies and companies are no longer required to hire only from their local talent pool. Instead, they can find extremely talented creatives who are willing to do their jobs from home. This is good news for you as you search for remote graphic design jobs you can do from home.
Pros:
Working at home as a designer can be incredibly fulfilling. Work at home jobs means you can make your workspace as creative as you want (no more designing from the inside of grey panelled cubicle walls) and you can find inspiration all around you (go for a walk instead of being trapped in the office).
Cons:
When working in design, whether working at home or in an office, there is always a lot of back-and-forth between you and your client or employer. This means you’ll need to be very available, a good communicator, and likely need to jump on the phone (or Skype) often.

There are hundreds of quality places to find remote jobs for graphic designers on the web. I’d start by subscribing to the weekly gig list at SolidGigs where the design section is always one of the most robust. 10. Logo Designer
Description:
Logo Designers are a special breed of designers. And I happen to be a personal friend with one of the best logo designers anywhere. His name is Ian Paget and he’s a world-class logo designer who lives in the UK. He’s told me on our podcast, Sidegig, that he gets so many inquiries every month, he has to turn down a good lot of them. So the market is ripe with opportunities for logo designers who want to do their jobs from home.
Pros:
If you’re good at it, logo design can be a very lucrative and rewarding niche. Imagine seeing your logo blown up on a giant neon sign!
Cons:
There’s a lot of (good and bad) competition out there for anyone wanting to work from home as a logo designer.
Where to find these work at home jobs:
There are many good and bad places to find legitimate online jobs in logo design. Depending on your skill level, some of the best I’ve found are 99 designs and Fiverr (for getting your feet under you). 11. Social Media Designer
Description:
Just like online jobs for social media writers are booming (as listed above) social media designers who want to work at home are growing every day. A lot of that is thanks to Instagram with its primarily visual feed. Companies who want to reach a younger demographic on Instagram hire talented social media designers for work at home jobs that are a complete blast!
Pros:
Usually, work at home jobs in social media provides you with an insane amount of freedom to experiment and learn. Engaging with fans and getting better over time can be really exhilarating—making this one of the most popular at home jobs around.
Cons:
Social media is a tricky animal and takes time to master. It takes more than a knowledge of good design to make social media design a reliable job you can do from home.
Where to find these work at home jobs:
For starters, reach out to local companies in your community and ask them if they need assistance in designing images for their social media accounts—particularly Instagram. You can also use the ‘Cold Emails that Convert’ course inside the SolidGigs library to effectively pitch those businesses. In addition, I’ve seen a lot of online jobs in the social media design space on Linkedin as well.
12. Illustrator or Letterer
Description:
Illustration, drawing, cartooning or lettering can be one of the most fun jobs you can do from home. Hand lettering is very hot right now and puts a lot of online jobs and work at home jobs up for grabs.
Pros:
Work in a field that really has character—daily creating very unique and original pieces that are one-of-a-kind.
Cons:
Illustration can take far more time and practice than more basic design or art and also tends to be extremely subjective.

13. Web Designer
Description:
At this point, it’s indisputable: every online business needs a quality website. In fact, most offline businesses need a good website too. This leaves the door wide open for web designers and makes web design one of the most common and reliable jobs you can do from home. From simple WordPress installations to completely custom development jobs, web design isn’t going anywhere soon and is a staple in any online jobs list.
Pros:
When you’re designing for the web, everything is available…well… via the web. That means you never even have to change out of your PJs if you don’t want to.
Cons:
With technology ever-changing, a website you designed this year could be outdated by next year. Of course, that also means work-from-home-job-security too. 😉
Where to find these work at home jobs:
Try signing up for SolidGigs and check out the Design section every week. There are always a handful of excellent web design gigs on the list. You can also try selling your web design themes on sites like ThemeForest for a more passive income strategy.
14. Photographer
Description:
You might be wondering how photography has made its way onto a list of the best work from home jobs. And while doing in-person portraits might be out of the question if your goal is to work at home, there are plenty of other opportunities for photographers. For example, you can sell your images online without ever leaving the house. You can also have products shipped to you for commercial photography—a very lucrative job you can do from home.
Pros:
You get to spend a lot of time with your camera and Photoshop, taking, editing, uploading and getting paid for the work you do.
Cons:
Photography has become a bit of a commodity with dozens of high-quality stock photography sites and even more premium stock sites—there’s a lot of competition for this work from home job.

15. Crafter/Maker
Description:
Nothing beats making something with your hands. And while most of the work from home jobs we’ve included in this list are very technology-oriented online jobs, we have to make room for the possibility that you want an at-home job that doesn’t have you plunked in front of your computer all day. Crafting and making cool products for customers to buy is an extremely viable (and fun) way that lots of people make money from home.
Pros:
You get to make things and send them to people, bringing them joy and satisfaction.
Cons:
Selling physical things you make usually comes with an upfront cost which could mean greater risk and more investment upfront.
Where to find these work at home jobs:
The most common place to sell things you’ve made by hand is, by far, Etsy. Two other great options for making and selling your own stuff are Minted and Zazzle. You can also sell items on your own website using software like Gumroad or Selz.

Marketing & Advertising Jobs You Can Do at Home
If you’re not an artist or don’t have amazing design skills never fear, there are still plenty of work at home jobs you can explore. Particularly, if you’re interested in strategy and media, maybe a marketing and advertising at home job is a better overall fit for you.
Below are a few jobs from home in the marketing and advertising industry. Keep in mind, this list is just to give you an idea of some at home jobs ideas you could pursue. As with each section, there are many more online jobs opportunities outside of these.
It’s getting to be that, with technology, almost all marketing and advertising jobs you can do from home with no problem.
16. Social Media Marketer
Description:
Social Media Marketing has gone from a “nice-to-have” asset for companies to a “must-have” strategic marketing decision. That means that Social Media Marketers are being hired and an ever-growing pace—making it a fantastic option when it comes to work at home jobs. With many companies having limited budgets for such positions, stepping in as a part-time freelancer is one of the best jobs you can do from home.
Pros:
As a social media marketer, you’ll get to dip your toes into strategy, creative, audience engagement, and maybe even some paid advertising. It’s very fun and diverse industry packed with a wide variety of at home jobs opportunities.
Cons:
Staying up on the latest technical specifications, skillsets, rules and trends when it comes to social media can be a lot to take on.

Companies all over the world are hiring social media managers which makes it incredibly easy to find online jobs listings on sites like Linkedin or Flexjobs.
17. Facebook/Google/Instagram Ad Manager
Description:
In addition to online jobs in the Social Media Marketing field, there’s also tons of online jobs on the paid side of online media marketing. For example, setting up Facebook, Google or Instagram advertising campaigns (using retargeting, boosted posts, paid instagram stories, and lots more) are great examples of online jobs you can do from home.
Pros:
Aside from being one of the more learning-rich at home jobs, being an online ad manager is also exciting because you get to test new strategies, ideas or hunches all on your clients’ dime. Of course, those hunches have to pay off with a positive ROI, but consider this: this particular at-home job is almost like getting paid to learn skills that can help you land more clients or start your own online business and work from home.
Cons:
Paid advertising can be confusing and hard to generate a positive ROI. And often times, particularly in social media advertising, just when you figure out what works, it stops working which means you’ll have to constantly be innovating in this work at home job.

Try the usual suspects. I’m talking about sites like Zip Recruiter, FlexJobs, Linkedin, or the gig list at SolidGigs.
18. Email Marketer
Description:
An email marketer must be, in some ways, a jack-of-all trades in order to make this work from home job function properly. An email marketer has to write, design, measure data, follow communication laws, prove ROI, and lots more. Luckily these are all jobs you can do from home without much problem. All you need is an internet connection and a strong work ethic.
Pros:
For many businesses, email is one of the top (if not the top) traffic and revenue driver in the company. At home jobs in email marketing can be high-budget, high-action, and high-satisfaction.
Cons:
Because there’s so much to being an email marketer, the learning curve can be quite steep. Your success is also often subject to the whims of email providers like Outlook or Gmail.
19. Media Buyer
Description:
Anyone who’s searching for jobs you can do from home should consider being a media buyer since all you’ll need is a phone, an internet connection and persistence. A media buyer finds and purchases advertising space on traditional and new media. This includes anything from billboards to radio and podcasts to influencer marketing. It’s often the media buyer’s job to evaluate results from these buys and make adjustments as needed.
Pros:
Media buyers get to work with lots of interesting people in a lot of fun industries. Seeing how radio ads are created and inserted can be a fun work from home job, for example.
Cons:
This is not a learn-it-in-one day kind of at home job. It can take years to build the right contacts, find the right opportunities, and build the rapport needed to negotiate rates for your clients.

The most common people hiring these work at home jobs positions are large marketing firms, advertising agencies, or corporate in-house marketing departments.
Administrative/Virtual Assistant Jobs From Home
One of the most common work at home jobs is to become a virtual assistant or perform some administrative task.
Why do so many people seeking work at home jobs decide to start out in these fields? Because online jobs like managing appointments, organizing files, collecting and organizing data, or managing someone’s email inbox are all jobs you can do from home.
These kinds of jobs can be extremely beneficial to finding more work at home jobs too. Executives, business owners, people who have enough work that they need a work from home virtual assistant—they tend to have great networks.
You never know where administrative jobs from home could eventually lead to in the future.
20. Virtual Assistant
Description:
Perhaps the most basic and straightforward of the work at home jobs on this list is the Virtual Assistant. Most often busy executives or entrepreneurs will hire virtual assistants to complete jobs you can do from home using a computer quite easily. In this broad role, you could do data entry, appointment management, and a whole slew of random jobs you can do from home.
Pros:
Given the right opportunity, these at home jobs can be very diverse which makes for an exciting day full of spontaneity.
Cons:
Given the wrong opportunities, you could find yourself manually transferring data from printed papers to Google spreadsheets or other dreadful at home jobs.

Next-level bloggers, influencers, and online business owners are always hiring virtual assistants. Try signing up on sites like TasksEveryday to make some connections and then do your best to break out on your own (where you can charge much more than most marketplaces).
21. Scheduling Assistant
Description:
When a person is busy running a business, managing a large group of people, or traveling to schmooze clients, they’ll no doubt have an insanely busy calendar that needs to be always up-to-date. If you’re looking for a work from home job that makes a big impact for your client, then being a Scheduling Assistant should definitely be at the top of your at home jobs list.
Pros:
For the most part, all you need is a smartphone and the right apps to manage your boss’s calendar. Additionally, you potentially could meet and interact with some pretty cool people—or at least their scheduling assistants. 😉
Cons:
Managing someone’s calendar can be stressful and high stakes—even if it is one of those jobs you can do from home. You have to be incredibly organized and on top of your game.

Visit Flexjobs and type “Scheduler” into the search bar. At any given time, you’ll be shocked just how many options there are.
22. Work From Home Secretary and/or Clerk
Description:
Similar to a Virtual Assistant, the Secretary or Clerk’s job is to make the work life of their company’s employees run more smoothly. The fundamental difference between a virtual assistant and a secretary or clerk is simply visibility.
While most Virtual Assistants tend to work behind-the-scenes and even do work that is later claimed by the person who hired them (eg. ghostwriting or responding to emails), a Secretary or Clerk is often the “face of a company” having “front-desk” visibility even when they work from home.
Pros:
As a work-from-home Secretary or Clerk, you’ll most likely have access to high-up people at the company you work for. You’ll also have a chance to interact with a lot of outside partners and other people the company has relationships with. This can present some excellent opportunities to build an impressive personal network.
Cons:
The day-to-day work of a Secretary or Clerk can be very demanding as far as work from home jobs go—often you’ll end up working later or earlier than your counterparts and always feeling you’re “on call” for the most important members of your company’s leadership team.
23. Email Inbox Manager
Everyone gets a lot of email. But extremely busy or famous people get a particularly large amount of email every day. These can range from internet celebrities (mildly famous in their own industry or niche) to CEOs of growing companies. Even small business owners who haven’t yet hired customer service reps have a lot of email to manage on a daily basis. Email Inbox Managing is a great introductory job you can do from home.
Pros:
