Are you taking it easy this holiday season?
If you run a thriving business, maybe you can afford to take a month off. But the truth is that many companies are doing two things right now:
- Scrambling to ramp up their holiday sales
- Preparing to knock it out of the park in 2018
These two opportunities are ripe for freelancers to take advantage of. But for some reason, many people believe that there’s no money to be made during the holidays. Don’t believe it! Many well-paid freelancers experience their best months at the end of the year.

Here’s a couple of ways that you can take advantage of the holidays for your freelance business:
Don’t Ignore the Holidays In Your Pitches
When you’re pitching potential clients, don’t ignore the fact that there are less than two months left in the year. Take advantage of that and use it to show people how you can help them end the year strong, make up for earlier months that were lacking, or prepare for next year.
Enjoy Less Competition
Because many freelancers think the holidays are a horrible time to secure new business, you’ll likely have less competition in your prospects’ inbox. While other freelancers are sitting at home planning for January, you’re capitalizing on the ability to make money right now. Larger companies with big budgets can’t buy more time, so they’re likely looking for help with overflow work that their in-house staff doesn’t have the bandwidth for.
Be a Hero
There’s nothing more beneficial to your freelance career than to come in and save the day. Maybe a regular freelancer is MIA or half the staff is out with a nasty Christmas cold. While freelancing is all about solving problems, coming in and saving a holiday campaign in danger is a great way to win a loyal customer.

Be the Man (or Woman) With a Plan
Maybe you’ve noticed your prospect’s competitors are really having success with a particular campaign or strategy and you’d like to help them prepare for their own killer campaign. Instead of offering your usual services, come up with a specific plan and offer to create it AND help them follow through. Just don’t give it all away in the first email.
Get Your Own House in Order
These strategies are great for your holiday marketing, but they won’t work if you aren’t consistent. When you’re first starting out, client acquisition is your only task. But it doesn’t have to be boring. Create a system, and show up every day. The more you work at it, the easier it is.
What’s your holiday marketing strategy? We’d love to hear about it in the comments!
