He said, "the last five years, I've made the same amount of revenue per year, and I've decided I want to change that. Between production work, selling, marketing, and accounting. I have a lot going on, but I don't make enough to hire someone yet." And so then he asks the question, "How can I take the jump from zero employees to one? Should I hire contractors instead? So I can focus more on selling and less on doing production work?

But losing a strong W-2 income has been hard. I'm in a position financially where I can be patient, but there are also operating opportunities to earn significant income as an employee. What are some of the biggest pros or positives of being a 1099 freelancer. How can being a 1099 outweigh the W-2 when the taxes are so high?"

He's basically struggling to decide if really this freelancing thing is worth it when there's so many higher-paying opportunities out there.

Charge Like a Founder—Not an Employee

Today we have a coaching call with Joseph, a digital nomad working in Mexico. Joseph is building his Wordpress development company on the side of his day job with dreams of becoming a full-time entrepreneur.

But there’s one major thing standing in Joseph’s way. As you’ll hear him explain during the show, Joseph is charging what he calls “employee” prices which just doesn’t give him enough cashflow to scale.

Clay and I are up to the challenge as we spend the full second half of the episode tackling the question: how to do I raise my prices?

How a hobby turned into a six-figure business

Today, you'll hear the story of Krista Stryker, founder of 12 Minute Athlete. Krista is living a comfortable life. She's married, lives in Los Angeles, California. She’s got her own fitness app, an incredible YouTube channel. Blogs for days on healthy living and activities featuring High Intensity Interval Training (HTIT). Life is good.

Her business is doing well into the six figures and she's recently added numerous contributors to 12 Minute Athlete in a variety of capacities. But it wasn't always this way.

After college she got married, she moved overseas, where Krista dabbled in writing and took a lot at teaching English to the Dutch...who, unfortunately, she discovered and you may already know...already speak English quite well, thank you very much. Things just weren't panning out. Meanwhile, she wasn't particularly happy with her health either.

In this episode, you're going to hear about the Aha moment that turned things around and transformed her into a founder. But losing a strong W-2 income has been hard. I'm in a position financially where I can be patient, but there are also operating opportunities to earn significant income as an employee. What are some of the biggest pros or positives of being a 1099 freelancer. How can being a 1099 outweigh the W-2 when the taxes are so high?"

He's basically struggling to decide if really this freelancing thing is worth it when there's so many higher-paying opportunities out there.
